Silver Bridge Gallery in Bracebridge is
ushering in summer with "Metal Petals," a show of art
for the home, garden and patio.
"Metal Petals" will feature floral works
by metal sculptors Floyd Elzinga and Iowan Gail
Chavenelle, along with Cathy Mark, whose metal-and-rock
sculptures have long been favourites at the gallery, and
concrete pieces from Rosebank Studio. The work of
stained-glass artist Gail Wilson will accompany a
variety of glass pieces from the studios of Kitras
Glass, Kevin Robert Gray, and Jeff Ferrier.
Gail Chavenelle creates elegantly cut and
shaped steel sculptures that belie the heaviness of her
materials; her elegantly cut and shaped works sit nicely
in home or garden.
New to Silver Bridge Gallery, Beamsville
artist Floyd Elzinga says he is "drawn to the
distinction between polar opposites." This duality
underlies the meeting in his work of floral delicacy
with base metal.
Amongst the floral works of Chavenelle
and Elzinga, expect to see new garden frogs and turtles
from Rosebank Studio, garden disks and globes from the
Kitras Art Glass and works from the studios of veteran
glass blower Kevin Robert Gray and newcomer Jeff
Ferrier.
Gail Wilson is also joining the gallery
this year, and the show will introduce her work with a
collection of stained-glass panels celebrating the
garden.
Opening on Friday, May 15, "Metal Petals"
continues at the gallery until June 1.
