Carey Nicholson is a professional studio basketmaker, working primarily with imported rattan reed. She custom dyes the reed, using techniques such as space-dying and/or painting. 

Occasionally pieces are dyed after construction and other materials (beads, etc.) are incorporated into the design. Using her own patterns and designs, based on traditional construction methods such as plaiting, splintwork and wickerwork, she personally weaves each piece in her studio. 

While pieces may look similar to each other, the variations in weaving and colour ensure that no two pieces are identical.
