Fibre Art - Melody Madden

Melody Madden is a full time, self taught textile artist whose work has been shown both in Canada and the United States.  She has chosen textiles as her medium of choice, as it best allows her the freedom to express herself and her ideas in colour, texture and storytelling.  Melody is deeply influenced, and inspired, by the beauty found in nature.  Lakes, stones, sky, trees and earth become symbols of endurance and timelessness in her work.  Through her art Melody explores the persistence of things in the world.

Melody’s artistic process includes painting the fabric, piecing, applique, collage, quilting and embroidery.  Many pieces grow spontaneously while others grow from original drawings.  For Melody an art quilt is a living document of cultural history, expressing artistic, emotional and spiritual values.

Melody Madden lives in rural Ontario and also enjoys spending time on the shores of Lake Superior.
