At the Gallery

May 19 through May 28

Silver Bridge Gallery is hosting its second exhibition of works by local photographer Andrew Collett, with an opening on Saturday, May 19.

“Light & Land” will feature the artist’s ongoing exploration of the effects of light on the Precambrian Shield in and around Muskoka. The 12 framed giclée prints making up the show will range in size from 20 by 25 to 33 by 43 inches.

Collett has been shooting professionally for about two years; although his heroes include classic landscape photographer Ansel Adams, he describes American nature photographer Tony Sweet, with whom he studied, as “the single most influential force” on his work. He is

also moved, he adds, by the paintings of many members of the Group of Seven, whose once revolutionary works have become Canadian classics in their own right.

“I am often told that my photography more resembles paintings than actual photographs,” he reflects. “Perhaps some of this influence has rubbed off.”

Andrew Collett will be in attendance at the gallery from 1 to 4 p.m. for the opening of “Light & Land.”
